Soon as you download x amount you are throttled like some horror film so it's rubbish really.
I download Linux images, Technet stuff, games from my Metaboli subscription and more and on the 2MB line i am using at the moment it only takes a couple of hundred MB before i am halved in speed at least. I suspect the 10mb will do exactly the same but perhaps let me download 500MB before it chokes the life out of me.
Watching the initial speed is great but you know that the estimated download time will soon expand over the horizon as soon as the cap kicks in.
As this is a temporary place of residence for me it's not the end of the world. As soon as i get sorted and settled though i will move to someone who does not cap or throttle, regardless of cost. I have heard BE are good.
That reminds me - must look out my TalkTalk details as I'm sure we bought an unlimited package, but they are now saying we got a 40GB a month pack which we keep going over and as of July we'll get charged £5 a month unless we upgrade to 80GB!

I am still paying the same price I paid for 2Mb...<smug_grin>and my upgrade happened within 2 weeks of registering...</smug_grin>Tell me about it.... but you still pay the new higher price while your waiting for it.
Oh and I have been testing the speed on and off for the last 2 weeks and so far the lowest I have seen is just under 9Mbps, it is usually around 9.8Mbps.
Thats with up to 4 users sharing the line as well!
I guess I am not what they call a heavy user as I do all my 'big' downloads at work on the measly 4Mbps line that our LEA gives us.
[EDIT] I have just looked at the timetable and our town is down for upgrade in July/August...why I got it so fast I don't know...not complaining though![/EDIT]

is anyone from the bolton area. I registered for my upgrade and a couple of weeks ago noticed that bolton were ready for the 10mb link. I rebooted my modem and noticed it jumped up to 5mb but not 10mb....strangeness!!!!
Take a look here for the traffic management policy Virgin Media uses (Traffic management - Help - Virgin Media).

Firstly, this is a cable connection and not adsl yeah?

I am getting 10Mbps (speedtest even recorded 10.04 over the weekend) but a friend who lives very near me has only gone up to 5Mbps. I wonder if the modem has anything to with the speed you get.
