12th March 2009, 07:26 PM #5 where do I get the flash util to get it back to the original one - think it used to be a virgin media one as got the router off of ebay.

12th March 2009, 07:39 PM #7 no go - that does not work. Tried the instructions on that website tried there firmware, the 3 from netgears site. Tried using the router upgrade directly on the router as well as the recovery utility and it just refuses to do it.
The utility wont get any further then after selecting which network card is connected to the router it just comes up blank.
I was running the RMDrv.exe before the upgrade one ( cant rememner file names as got rid of em )

12th March 2009, 07:54 PM #8 I do remember that when I recovered a netgear from the Sky firmware it took about 20 attempts before it "caught" so to speak and started sending the image.

12th March 2009, 08:02 PM #9 tried a lot more and I get as far as the network connections ( tried both NIC's ) and the next page is just blank.

12th March 2009, 08:07 PM #10 I cant remmeber the procedure, but to use the firmware recovery tool I had to run it on the PC and reboot the netgear and hold in the button for a certain time. I might have also had to specify a 10.x static IP on my nic. Its been a while since I used it
Also, are you sure youve got the correct firmware for the correct version of your dg834g as they are not interchangeable.

12th March 2009, 09:30 PM #13 The SP would denote a special netgear build for sky/virgin/whoever
I seem to recall Sky customers hacking their sky-issued DG834GT's a while back to revert to normal Netgear mode - perhaps there is a similar procedure for the G's?

yup thats what i was talking about earlier, i bought one off ebay for a song, but it was locked to sky and wouldnt take any other firmware. I had to use the ng recovery util to put on the generic netgear firmware then it functioned as normal.
