    ADSL2+ hardware compatibility

Here's a weird one. Does anybody know if I can take a standard ADSL modem and stick it on the end of an ADSL2+ line, and expect to get any traffic? I realise it's going to be slow, but that's not a problem for the time being.

I would have thought it would work, but has anyone tried it before?

It should step down to ADSL1 standard, it depends on the gear and the setup at your providers end. By default they should be set to autonegotiate, the ones here in NZ are for all of the people who still only have ADSL modems and have not brought ADSL2 ones yet or have only just been switched over to ADSL2 recently so it should work unless the provider has disabled it.

Spend £30 and get a nice new Linksys router (AM200). If you've got ADSL2, you can be 5km from the exchange rather then 2km, also it's faster. If you can get it, you might as well use it! But yes, an ADSL router will worth on a ADSL2 line.

Yes, I know this, but the hardware will be replaced in a few months anyway, so I just want to get the line sorted for the time being.

But yes, an ADSL router will worth on a ADSL2 line.
    Experience or legend?
