    LGFL

    Guys,

Has anyone gone with LGFL then come away from them?

Having a nightmare with them and unblocking ports for the boarding school to use games, PS3 Xbox and so on.

    Be good to hear views.

Have considered it on many occasions when they won't unblock what I need, but I've found that if you can justify what you are asking for and depending on who answers your support site case, you can normally get what you want.

    Are they just saying no?

You could consider going Option 2 and then have your own firewall which you are in control of....

They just don't seem to be able to unblock what I need. We have students in the boarding school and they currently cannot connect using PS3'd Xboxs, on-line gaming on a PC.

I do have smoothwall in place as well, but LGFL dont help. Option 2 may be a way to go as well.

Have they given you a reason why they can't do it/won't do it?

Just last week I know of another school who had problems getting a port for their VOIP system opened because Atomwide insisted that it wasn't required despite what the documentation said and what the 3rd party company who was doing the install said. They got there eventually.

Sometimes you have to keep on at them...

    Hi @Techdw,

we've quite a lot of schools moved from LGFL to us and they've been using us for years.

PM me if you'd like a reference site.

    Thanks

    Dave

Personally I haven't heard of any schools jumping ship from LGfL 2.0 & most of the schools I'm involved in have already renewed in advance. The turn around time on port changes seems much better than we used to have it with Capita. When I put in a request, as long as it's clear from the request what I'm trying to receive & it's 'sane' (under LGfL policy) I haven't had any issues. If you're having difficulties it may be worth linking the support guys to the documentation that details the port requirements or provide a capture. Or if you want more control, & an increase in workload , look into the option 2 route.
