Mail delivery Issues hotmail.com and live .co.uk

    Hi guys,

having a bit of a odd error. Unable to send or receive mail from Hotmail or live accounts.

Have a LA run mail filter that I have access to and on tracing shows rejected with could not complete sender verify.

Have checked my settings and have disabled verify to no affect.

    NS lookup show the following
    C:\Users\mnott>nslookup -query=mx hotmail.com
    Server: **.hazeleyacademy.internal
    Address: 10.85.120.210

    DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
    *** Request to ad1.hazeleyacademy.internal timed-out

all other mail sites are fine.

Have checked my DNS record and that is correct and their have been no changes.

    Any ideas guys.

    Thanks.

    Matt

If other domains work OK, then surely there must be something applied to these domains? Are you sure they're not blacklisted higher up the chain?

    is your server tarpitting?
what does MXtoolbox say about things?
what does ping to 157.55.2.85 (which is a hotmail smtp server) bring back? We see about 19ms.

We had to reduce the tarpit on our exchange server as some webmail providers stopped trying too quickly. We were originally 10seconds and had to reduce to 8.

Use the MXtoolbox webpage to check to see if your Ssmart host is on a blacklist,
If its trying to verify the sender isn't part of that a reverse DNS lookup ?

I have had some problem recently with RM who provide our smarthost being on a blacklist
