Question What do you use to monitor/block/filter internet

Hi Guys, my company is the ISP and external IT contractor for a school and we've been asked to find a solution for filtering/blocking/monitoring students internet use.

A student was caught visiting sites they shouldn't have and the Head of IT/IT Tech has requested this.

Just wondered if there was something that was a school standard or more popular with you guys

    Cheers

Does this tie into Active Directory or are running it as your main server? My worry is that they use dansguardian which as far i know not updated anymore.

We use Smoothwall for the filtering and Securus for the monitoring side of things.

unfortunately, smoothwall is out of reach of most primary schools due to its cost.

there is no connection to the AD, it just filters the internet with squid and dansguardian. We have a separate AD server on Window 2008 R2.

We get our internet through the county & they provide two levels of filtering (actually it's RM kit) A layer at county level, which we have no involvement in and a filtering system that we manage.

    For monitoring we use Securus
