Configuring settings through GPP or direct registry change/update

Is there any fundamental difference, or anything extra to be gained from say, applying Internet Explorer user settings through the 'Internet Settings' section of 'Control Panel Settings' within GPP, compared to modifying the corresponding registry key, directly through a registry update/create within the 'Windows Settings' section of GPP?

Neatness? For anyone else who ever came into the school as technician (suppose you left) then it would be easy to see from the overview of the Group Policy what settings it affects. If you are just adding a registry key via GPP its not quite as easy to follow

Usability is probably the main one, as mentioned above. Not all of the settings available in the UI have obvious corresponding key names.

If you're only modifying one or two settings, and they have obvious names, then I wouldn't see an issue with using GPP registry. If you're doing anything more complex, stick to using the Internet Settings.

As it happens I deploy my internet settings using the registry option, the only reason being that the settings I use apply to all versions of IE that we have, rather than doing a separate IE policy for them
