    Red face Domain

    Morning all,

We've currently moved from LLN and as such are loosing our @school.leeds.sch.uk address.

So I've contacted Nominet, and got access to their admin panel, expecting to see the possibility to edit DNS settings, instead I'm only able to add nameservers. I would like to add this domain to Office 365 purely for email addresses (don't ask me - our website isn't this) is there anyway to do this? Or any way to host this?

    Cheers!

I was under the impression (perhaps wrong?) that the sch.uk address belongs to the school and the school only? Or is that just our LA (Northants) ?

As regards your school FQDN, it is yours, you do not have to loose it.

haha, sorry, we won't be loosing it, I meant the current service of using it as an email address.

The problem is I need to add it to a nameserver so I can add DNS settings such as the MX records - how can I do this when I don't have a website?

*I want to add it to Office 365 as a domain for just a few email address

To answer the original question - Nominet will provide you with a way to set nameservers. You then have to provide these somewhere. On these, you need to set all the relevant records you want (A record for www -> IP, CNAME for any aliases, MX for email).

As others have mentioned, you don't lose your domain itself when you move from your LLN, but you probably lose their DNS servers. I'd suggest talking to someone like @CSNM-Carl (CS New Media Web Hosting - UK Based Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, VPS & Dedicated Servers) who can host your domain and DNS for you (for a price, obviously).

Urgh, keep trying to call CS New Media, but apparently they have nobody working on the sales line I just get answerphone.

Am I correct in thinking all I need to do is use the domain transfer on there page, pay, and when the account is setup I will be able to edit the dns settings on there admin type page for our domain?

We have our domain and DNS hosted with Vidahost, who do it for free. We paid them to register our new domain (ourschool.bournemouth.sch.uk) it cost about £6. Then holding the domain as registrars and allowing us to manage our DNS is free... Our account says £0.00 paid, account expires 01/01/2099!
