Re-Direct web address to internal IP

    Hey guys

Do any of you know how to set it up so that whenever someone goes to our website hosted here for example http://mypage.myschool.net it then redirect them to http://10.157.4.4 or http://filecloud?

    Thanks Guys

If you manage your own DNS internally then you can do it that way. Set up a simple web server of your choice with a redirect configured, then create the appropriate records on your DNS server to point to your web server.

Ugh DNS! Never know what to do with it, looks like I'll have to have a play is there no way I can do this on Smoothwall?

Not that I'm aware of, though if anyone else knows a straightforward way to do it in Smoothwall, I'd be interested to hear about it.

Won't a simple alias in DNS do the trick? Also, you could add an entry to the hosts file for a quick and dirty way of doing it.

In many cases that will work but some systems get shirty if the DNS name you connect with isn't the one they are expecting. Anything using HTTPS will display a certificate error, for example, and internal sites configured for automatic logon will prompt for credentials if you connect using an external hostname. With the suggestion I gave, the browser will redirect to the correct internal hostname and automatic logon would still work.
