Cloud Backup Solution
I want to host our a cloud backup solution for remote sites that we support. The backups will be running over WAN links and some over the internet.
We have the hardware to store all the data on our site, so my question is does anyone know of software to perform this ? I've been looking but whenever I mention cloud I get directed to cloud solutions where the data is hosted else where, and not us being the provider.

Can't you create a VPN tunnel and then rsync differences? (or create a differential on site and transfer that).
I use OwnCloud as a self hosted cloudy drive thing, but it's not of itself robust backup - simply replicating isn't, you need some ability to hold multiple generations of files.

Do you use vmware or hyper-v?

The sites we want to backup wont have either, but yes we do have vmware on our site.

AeroFS Private Cloud? It's more of a cloud file sync solution however.

Do you actually have / want a "cloud" of some kind hosted at your site, or do you just have a large file server? If you just want to sync a bunch of file shares, rsync over SSH should be fine. I've just set one up here - live file shares are synced to a backup server onsite, then synced to a matching file server offsite. That way there's offsite backups but local users can get straight at backup files at local access speeds if they need to restore something. Also, if there's a complete hardware-destroying diaster at the other end you can simply ship them their backup file server. The local backup file server, with a relativly small 12TB of capacity, is currently taking hourly backups but hasn't gone over 7% of total diskspace yet - I'm figuring there should be enough for at least weekly backups to be kept for the next few months or so. Do you have the hardware in place yet, or are you still to purchase that?
