    Edugames unlimited, How to block?

    This site seems to be doing the rounds now. https://sites.google.com/site/edugamesunlimited/

    Its the new favourite among the kids!

    Any idea how you can block these kinds of google sites?

    We using Lightspeed filtering here:

    Have tried adding the domain to the block list direct - no luck
    Have tried to recategorise the domain - doesn't show up on any of the kids history, wont let me manually categorise it.

    Aside from the fact it isn't correctly categorized by my multi-layered/vendored filtering services.... it is also allowed through by the safe search rule which trumps everything. I am not on smoothwall, so the reasons you can't block it may be different.

    proxy config file to the rescue, if it's a managed device anyhow. I managed to block it by going direct on sites.google.com, since we don't have direct 80/443 it doesn't work

    Code:
    function FindProxyForURL(url, host) {

        if (shExpMatch(url, "ftp:*") || shExpMatch(url, "*crick.internal*") || shExpMatch(url, "*.local")) return "DIRECT";

    // If IP address is internal or hostname resolves to internal IP, send direct.

        var resolved_ip = dnsResolve(host);

        if (dnsDomainIs(host, "localhost") || isInNet(resolved_ip, "10.0.0.0", "255.0.0.0") ||
            isInNet(resolved_ip, "172.16.0.0",  "255.240.0.0") ||
            isInNet(resolved_ip, "192.168.0.0", "255.255.0.0") ||
            isInNet(resolved_ip, "127.0.0.0", "255.255.255.0") ||
            dnsDomainIs(host, "internal") || dnsDomainIs(host, "local") || dnsDomainIs(host, "sites.google.com"))
            return "DIRECT";

        return "PROXY rmsmartcache.local:8080; PROXY censored3.powys.sch.uk:3128; DIRECT";

    }

    We have moved the URL to the games category.

    However because this child domain "sites.google.com" could bring up content unrelated to google services at any time, I would suggest moving the whole child domain to a custom category and block it for students.

    Please contact the support guys with a call/email/chat session if you need further help.
