    Chrome Bookmarks

    Hi,

We've had chrome deployed for quite a while now, but we're receiving quite a few tickets for bookmarks to be added to chrome as the page displays/functions better in chrome than IE.

We have set the option to import favourites from IE on first run, but any IE GPO favourites which are added at a later date are not imported.

Has anyone managed to find a solution that works?

I've even tried to create a Chrome Extension button that launches the required URL, but my coding is pants.. Too many json errors which I don't understand.

    Thanks,

    Mike

You could create "apps" that link to the websites.

Unfortunately you cannot push bookmarks yet.

Thanks for this, this is what I've done so far. However seeing example above would have save me time!

Does anyone have any examples of how to create a button extension that would launch the url instead?

    Thanks.

I've got my app packaged into a .crx - Any help on how to deploy my own app using gpo.

I can host it if needed.

It seems that I'm still unable to do this... (Darn Google and its incomplete GPO's)

It seems that the only way i'm going to be able to do this is to copy a specifically created Bookmark file to a server location and a logon script to replace the file.

Can someone quickly knock up a bat file that will copy the bookmark file (it has no extension) from our server to the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default folder. I'd also like this to only run once per user.

    Thanks,

    Michael

Late reply to this but found it on a search and I might have something to could help you. I've made 2 batch scripts that run (1 on log on, 1 on log off), which copies over the users bookmarks file and copies over a file called "First Run" from their local profile.

The idea is to still have the GPO set which gets chrome to copy their bookmarks from IE so the initial run copies all their bookmarks across, then after the bookmarks file is made and the first run file has been created (which it uses to see if it has already imported their bookmarks before) the scripts will run on each log off and log on to copy these files to and from their user area into their local profile, so all the profile files don't start clogging up user areas but you still get your bookmarks saving nicely.

    Log Off Script
    Code:
    if exist "G:\Chrome" goto 1
    mkdir G:\Chrome

    :1
    XCOPY "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\bookmarks" "G:\Chrome" /Y
    XCOPY "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\First Run" "G:\Chrome" /Y
    Log On Script
    Code:
    if exist "G:\Chrome" goto 1
if not exist "G:\Chrome" goto end

    :1
    XCOPY "G:\Chrome\bookmarks" "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\*" /Y
    XCOPY "G:\Chrome\First Run" "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\*" /Y

    :end
In our case G: is the location of their home folder. These scripts have been designed to run on Windows 7 clients.

Am I missing something. I simply open another tab so I have the website in one tab and my app screen in the other and then drag the website tab url into the app screen. Is this not the same?
