    Unhappy Northern Grid/BT broadband outage!

We got new BT broadband via Northern Grid installed over the Summer and its been terrible since Monday!

Bad/slow connection with regular timeouts and missing content etc.....

BT phoned me this afternoon to say they had escalated our problems to a BT 'major incident' as more than 200 schools are having the same problems!

I knew the move to BT wasnt going to go well!

Havent heard a single thing from Northern Grid themselves. Feels like being on a crashing plane with no word from the cockpit....):

Anyone else affected or heard anything from BT/NGFL?

We're having major issues here in North Tyneside, also to do with BT as well I believe!

It's the whole of the grid apparently. No ETA as of yet (BT worked through the night, thought it was fixed, staff came in this morning...)

We are getting some Internet, but very, very slow and non-responsive/dropping-out.

Is that what everyone else is experiencing or are some areas off all together (don't expect a reply if the latter, but thought someone with a connection might know!).

Massive problems here in Cleveland, in the middle of setting up a TMG/Smoothwall solution and it's all going horribly wrong because most of the time it's hard to tell whether the problem is the ISP or the boxes i'm working on.

Dropouts, failed DNS queries, slow, non-responsive... no timeframe/information from BT, total nightmare since Tuesday morning!!! GRRRRR

Got builds for laptops/workstations I can't do because I can't get drivers, 2 firewalls to setup which can't auto-negotiate routing because of the outage, application servers to build and no access to drivers, windows updates to syncronise, AV definitions to update, CAD/CAM software to download, a backup system to reinstall which I need to download from Symantec, DNS updates to make with our webhost, learning support software updates, RRAS on TMG that can't be tested/verified, bios updates to fix WOL problems... YOU NAME IT, I CAN'T DO IT... HELP!?!?!!?!

Obviously I haven't even highlighted the 150 staff and 800 students who are also completely reliant upon internet access for communication/lessons...

I've heard similar things from quite a few schools in the same area too. Good luck and let me know how you get on.

You tend to forget how much you rely on internet access for routine stuff like driver downloads, error message lookups etc!

In the 'good' old days, you got a driver on a 5.25/3.5 disk and that was it - it was never updated because they tested it before shipping it out!

We seem to be getting an improved connection within the last hour or so.

I believe that BT may be taking down the broadband connection completely between 1pm and 2pm today to do further testing.

Will update if I hear any more (and still have a connection!).

typical that it happens first week of term too and not the begining of summer with 6 weeks to fix!

yes, we do as well. Thank goodness!

However, from the emails we have received from Northern Grid/BT, it sounds like they are still not sure what caused the problems!!!

    Worrying.
