But I do agree with Roger Distill comments: -
When he heard of the QCA decision, Mr Distill said he doubted there was time to stop the test going ahead in 2008.
"There are a lot of people with a vested interest in the success of the test," he said.
"We shall see, but I'm not terribly optimistic."
I can't see it being cancelled and too many people in high places want the test to go ahead but interesting date naa choose 2013 as by then we will have had few years of Mr Brown in charge and two years after a general election....
The problem with TAL is that they have historically be over estimated and that is one of reasons for the test as certain culture developed in some schools to make sure that ict TAL are over estimated to keep levels up etc.
hmmm

I've just been reading it. They do have a point in cancelling it, but quite a few people need to see it used to save their reputations etc.

If it does can cancelled I can see some angry letters for some schools. I know place’s that have spent £1000(s) on hardware they don’t need to be ready for the test only now it might not be needed?
On the plus side it was a good reason to get a server here which I can now use for other things.

Any idea when we get a definite Government yay or nay? I have yet to deploy the PC-based software and am itching for an excuse not to do it!

I can't reeeeeeeeally see it being cancelled before 2008, would be nice if it was, but hopefully once they see that ever school has a huge drop in results from it, they should axe it.

Think missing point here got it till 2013 so investment in hardware not going to be wasted.
I still think the tests should be compulsory if not only to bring TAL in-line

Not just hardware - I wonder how many schools were forced to buy windows (and/or Citrix) licensing by RM's inability to get the software running cross platform.

Re: interesting
So it had taken his school's
ICT advanced skills teacher 50 minutes just to figure out how to work it, he said.
As that was half the test time, "needless to say he didn't finish it".
I can see the point he is making - but not sure I would like that said about me!
