Can you run the KS3 Test server stuff on an XP machine?
Whilst still hoping against hope that this heap of cr*p dies a death, I suppose I need to consider the possibility of having to install it!
We have a Novell Netware network and I have zero experience of Windows 2003 Server so don't relish the thought of setting one up.
However, we have an XP machine running on the network as a licence server for Sibelius, Quark etc. Could the KS3 Test Server be run on this?
Any comments greatly appreciated.

IIRC XP can only take 10 connections?
Being in a similar position to you we decided to install the server on Centos (tell RM its Red Hat Enterprise and they'll ship you the disks). Not sure if the software will run on your SuSE? Novell server, probably it will be but isn't officially supported. Installer is pretty simple and we've not had any problems (with the server) so far - clients are another story

To be honest, if you have a spare box capable of decently running XP Pro, then you can run W2k Server, or server 2003. If you can squeeze more memory into it then that would be good.

The server will run on XP - The DPS's use anonymous connections to Tomcat so the 10 user connection limit don't apply

I thought the 10 connection limit applied to the TCP/IP stack?

the 10 user connection limit applies to authenticated users only - stops people trying to run XP as a server

There are several registry keys you need to fiddle with to get XP's TCP/IP stack perfoming optimally though.

Additionally you may wish to remove the TCP connection limitation.

Beware, patching system files in this way is against the EULA.
