Powering aircon from UPS? 20kva for 3k? Im interested! :D
Ps it was a hard sell to the Bursar to buy a jenny, could not argue against well the PCs in classrooms will be off anyway,so whats the point...
So I just have to make do with APC network shutdown software for now... :-(
I think the key thing is do you need your UPS to allow a graceful shutdown of your systems or to keep them running for hours? Remember that I bet in 98% of schools they don't have the desktop PCs, edge switches etc on UPS's as well thus what is the point of your server room running on UPS for 6hrs you might as well reduce the £ of the UPS and have it run for 1hr to allow a graceful shutdown.
We designed ours, with Borri, to run for 45 minutes at 75% load, we worked out that should give us enough time to get everything shut down in the rack safely, as well as allowing them to run for 5-10 minutes before having to start that process to mean that small power spikes, quick turning offs that are needed etc don't create too many problems.
That was my friends second hand Gen Set. I'm speccing the same as @john with regards to the shutdown period We tend to get many powercuts here but none tend to last more then 20 mins. So I've specced my UPS to run for 20mins before needing to shut things down - overall about 50 mins should do the trick for us.
