Creating an official form (with boxes, like the census or passport applications)

Hi guys,

I'm looking to streamline some of the processes here. To start with, the registration and admissions procedure. I want to condense and consolidate the various forms we have into one single form. A lot of data entry error is down to this chaos.

I would like to create a form, with little boxes for each letter, all to be capital and blank ink only, that kind of thing. Like an official passport application, census form or anything from the DVLA etc..

Other than the usual office apps, is there anything out there that makes the process a little easier?

I've done all ours with Word tables... but then I'm a dab-hand at them at there's not much I can't do using a Word form (not sure I should be proud of that! :redface:)

I must admit that we decided not to go for one-letter-per-box as they're all designed to be typed in, so the pdf 'print-and-handwrite' versions look the same. I think our parentmail registration is the only one where the hadwritten version is one-letter-per-box and that's just to keep parentmail happy.

If you don't mind Word etc, I find a lot of the prebuilt templates are useful ( Applications - Templates - Microsoft Office ) obviously doesn't have to be the application style ones, but saves a lot of time building one if there's "similar" to what you want on there.

Now isn't that clever a little thingymabob. I'll be using that for other things, but this form needs to be a printed jobby that goes out to the prospective parents for filling in.

I'll just trudge on with word then.
