Java JDK deployment

Hi,

Does anyone here know how to deploy the Java Development Kit, as an MSI ?

I can do the Runtime no problem, using AD GPOs and an MSI extracted from the .exe file.

But when I try to do the same thing with the JDK I get an error 1311, cannot find file, the file it has "lost" is "sj160070.cab".

I have looked inside the .exe, and this file isn't there, I have also renamed the .exe to sj160070.cab in the hopes that this would work, but nope.

Any ideas ?

Also, if someone could point me in the general direction I need to be able to install BlueJ (which only comes as an .exe setup file, via AD / GPOs) it would be much appreciated.

When you run the install.exe, you should be able to find the MSI and in your local temp folder. Copy the contents of the folder to a network share, and create a Transform file for that MSI. This works for JDK 6.1.

Yep, tried that.

It works for JRE (runtime), but it gives me the dodgy error above when I try to do it with the JDK (development kit), unable to find the sj160070.cab file (which I can't find either).

This is with JDK 1.6 update 7, so I might have a look around for an earlier version..

Is that 1.6.5 or 1.6.6 ?

Actually, I gave up, in the end, installed it manually.

I tried installing the 1.5.16, which is what I could find on the Sun Java site, listed under previous versions, but this didn't work with BlueJ, despite the BlueJ site saying it works with everything since 1.4.


It's a pain in the arse though, cause I dunno what's going to happen when the next upgrade comes out.
The problem is, when I look further into it, that the files are no longer extracted into the %temp% folder, when installing, instead they are put into c:\program files\common\java\update\base images\... or at least SOME of them are, some are also located in c:\documents and settings\%username%\application data\sun\java\.
I have at no point managed to find the fabled sj170060.cab that it was after, although I have got sb170060.cab, jm170060.cab, jp170060.cab and jz170060.cab, so I suspect there was another location with the required file in.


I will have another play with it, when the 1.6.8 comes out, but I hope this is before a holiday. so I can just update the classroom images.

Sorry to bump an old thread.. Do you still have an msi for the Java Development Kit? I don't really fancy installing it manually on a room of computers!
