Cover for teachers
Ok, here goes.
Does anyone use a web based or network app that teachers use to request a cover teacher, then a cover teacher can select to cover the lesson?
Once a cover teacher teacher has selected it will then need to go to a specific person who will then authorise it?
At the moment we use paper based and we have been asked to make it electronic?
It would want to be almost like the room booking system, but multiple periods on 1 period (that made sense to me) with the extra authorisation bit.
Probably not the best way of describing it. :0)
Any ideas?

Re: Cover for teachers
Do you not have anyone who's in charge of cover all of this requesting cover and then people cherry picking the cover they want to do then it being authorised seems a bit strange?

Re: Cover for teachers
Our system is that we have a answer phone for absences. The Cover person listens and enters it into a web system & selects who will cover. Cover can be booked and goes through the same person.
The system is a basic access DB to enter all the data into and a web page that displays it all for staff to check. Web page always show todays date and the DB has to have the date to edit selected manually.

Re: Cover for teachers
Yeah we have a system in place, but are requirement are a bit more complex than the average way.
This is not for absenses, this is more for training, days of for weeks ahead, I have just spent about an hour with the person who currently does it and my brain hurts now.
example: a teacher fills in a form, sends it to cover person, this person checks to see weather or not they can take the day/period off, then says yes/no, then assigns a cover teacher, but once assigned, needs to be approved by head (?) then all ok. sounds simple but theres a lot more other stuff to do which the cover person does without thinking (putting correct cover with class etc. also, she likes the current system and does not want it changed, and was never asked.
Not sure if it will go ahead now. still any ideas are still welcome.

Re: Cover for teachers
I would say - don't change a system that works! Cover is such a complex issue, fiddling can end in disaster.
