Document repository

As part of my Performance Management (laughs hysterically) I've suggested that I will sort out our file management (the stuff available to all staff).

I was looking for some sort of document storage with a GUI front I guess, where I can control who uploads to where etc.

I made something in Drupal for Uni but wouldn't trust anything i'd made lasting too long.

Wondering if a Wiki could do something like that? I need it to be simple for the staff to just pick up and use. I'd just host it internally.

Biggest issue is it needs to be free or cost as little as possible. Any ideas?

File Sharing for Team Collaboration and Productivity - Office 365 Would that be something that might be up to par for your requirements?

what is it with my hesitation with things being cloud based...(not my personal stuff). Bizarre.

Guessing that has a price implication though. Still a good suggestion.

Would document control in SharePoint do what you want?

Lol its cool the only reason I suggested it was because it was free. The borough here are going to upgrade to office 365 hopefully this year. Currently the borough have share points set up on request so I was going to suggest that? But obviously it depends on how your borough does things. We have one and all the policies etc are placed on there.

This is the first I've heard about that...

The Sharepoint component of Office 365 for edu only gives you 500Mb free space per user, which might not be enough for this.

SharePoint is very much what you need, use the version that matches the version of MS Office you run and you get 100% perfect integration so you can save direct to it and edit directly from it no re-uploads or anything. Ties in with AD its bliss :)

... or dare I suggest Google Drive/Docs?
May depend on your attitude to MS and/or Google.
