AOL nightmare
Sorry if I waffle not very technically minded
I have an aol broadband internet connection I am using a BT Voyager 105 adsl modem and windows xp
for the last couple of weeks I keep getting an error message local area connection 2 a network cable is unplugged this results in the internet connection being lost
i tried reinstalling the modem, and changed the cables but this message still appears intermittently
Last night in desperation i used the aol one click solution
The thing that confuses me is that now in network areas there has appeared a direct connection which is WAN mini port (ATW)
Is this ok?
am I still connecting via the modem?
Will my phone provider charge me for this
Any help will be much appreciated
Next plan of action is the wheelie bin!

Next plan of action 'ditch AOL' and get a provider that doe sinternet the correct way, without going through all its software rubbish.

Re: AOL nightmare
as scot said change of provider is better idea but it also sounds like you are having issues with your modem my other suggestion is getting a modem / router if you want any more details if you are considering this option let me know and i will provide you with answers

If you want to stick with AOL, you can phone them up and they should give you a free wireless router in return for agreeing to stay with them for another year.
Then all you have to do is plug the wireless router into your PC using the supplied cables, turn off wireless if you don't want it and then you can go straight on the internet without having to run the AOL software.
2 friends who don't want to leave AOL have done this, and it worked perfectly.
