Check out this program from the Edugeek member download area:

Is this what you are looking for? I have not had a chance to use it yet, but it looks good.

    from the command line, go

    net send /domain[:name] message

@roland: NetSend is Ok but you will have to have the messenger service running, by default (after XP SP2) this is disabled so you will have to enusre it is on all PC's for it to work.

It is also very limited in what you can do but then that depends on what information you are looking to send out.

Sysmess from Flo is really good, and only costs about 20 quid as I recall. You have a little app running on each client, and then you put text files in a given network location - these are displayed on one, some or all of the PCs depending on the type of message, e.g. per user (follows one specific user around the network), per station (messages all users of one workstation) or group (messages all members of a particular group, e.g. all Year 7s, regardless of where they log in).

ya, there is no need in net send command these days.
A lot of messengers for local network available on market.

our techies installed many programs for messaging..
lan talk was tested too, man .. Office girls was messed up by this tool.
Msn and Icq-like style progs is the best
try something like Softros lan messenger

or just google "lan messenger".. u can find many tools.
