Hi All,
Against my better jugdement I have allowed access to email facilities to all students, year 7 -> year 13
This has thrown up a problem in that students are just using email in class to email each other and not do the work they need to do.
Does anyone now of a way or solution that will restrict access to a URL based ontime.
I would like to allow email access during the last 10 mins of class, during breaks and lunches and before / after school.
Any ideas would be great.
I addressed this by creating a policy in our remote control software (AB Tutor) to block Outlook and the OWA URLs, which teachers can then apply/remove as they require.
You could do this on the server. If you have a scheduled task setup to add/remove the relevant security permissions from the web servers root folder, that'll stomp on them.
If you need to extend this to be more scalable/flexible. I'd look at doing it on your proxy server instead. I know Dansguardian can do it, and I expect you could convince ISA to do it too.
ISA can do time based rules but I'm not sure how flexible it is cause it's been a year or so since i looked at it. It could be that it works on half hour blocks...i cant remember. But i would have thought it depends whether you are hitting the proxy before goign to your Exchange server internally or whether it goes straight to the server.
thanks for the replies all.
I did not even think of ISA although all local addresses are set to bypass local proxy, hmmm might have to change that.
I do like the scheduled task alternative though, i'll let you know what I have done once I find something that works easy enough.
Thanks again ;-)
