    Printing ID/Swipe cards

We are looking at implementing a magnetic stripe card based print quota system, which together with our electronic library system could be driven off a ID card issued to all staff & students.

    How do others do this?
What sort of card printer etc should we be looking at?
    Any recommended suppliers & costs?

    Thanks.

Zebra are the de-facto company when talking about card printing really. However, our card printer is like a cheap-zebra-wannabe. It does the job though - it was bought through NEDAP when we purchased the registration system.

    Re: Printing ID/Swipe cards

I was looking a the Zebra printers, but was trying to work out how the mag stripe encoding worked from word. (There web site seems to show that it`s possible).

We are in the process of switching to CMIS, and were hoping to be able to extract the data and photos from that.

Really, we are looking for a) how do other schools extract and manage the data. and b) what sort of cost are we looking at for cards and printer ink?

    Thanks

    Re: Printing ID/Swipe cards

We have a card printer for our EasyTrace cashless till system. It is a Javelin [310 I think] I will check it when I get the chance. I haven't had any complaints about it except that it is parallel only [No USB option] and it needs cleaning occasionally which can only be done with a specific cleaning kit: A card which swipes in and out of the printer to clean the heads.
