Does anybody know how to deploy the divx codec through group policy?
We have a programme that uses it but when you deploy the software it skips the codec installation so I wanted to chain divx on after the software.

Possibly either make an msi of videolan or the codec installer ??

Remember VideoLan isn't legal..
shaz buckets :P Is it just the deccs part of it that makes it illegal or what is it that makes it illegal in the uk or europe ?Originally Posted by Geoff
Well the VideoLan FAQ deals with these points.
Is libdvdcss legal
What about personal/commercial usage?
I also read that second FAQ entry to read that you must be careful when distributing codecs yourself. So it might impact thoms plan even though he isn't using VideoLan.
The programme that uses it is called ClickView www.clickview.co.uk
I e-mailed them with the issue and they told me that it can't be done through group policy.
The clickview app installs ok but the codec doesn't.
I will have to install locally for now until I get it sorted.
If I get anywhere I shall feed back
sorry to resurrect dead thread - but id rather reawaken then start a new one.
We too are now on the click view bandwagon, has anyone made progress with the divX deployment?
I have tried couple of things but bubkus.
I think i just created a package and rolled it out through group policy for Xvid. Seemed to do the trick.
I got a response from ClickView for anyone caring. They provide a Xvid MSI either only after requesting from tech support or just very recently added it as a KB article (or third option - im slightly backwards and didnt see in on their site)

Rock and Roll

If anyone would like a more up-to-date Xvid package I have uploaded the one I created here.
Mine has several advantages over the ClickView package.
* It is based on the latest version of the Xvid codec (v1.2.1-04122008) so supports things like multi-CPU encoding if you need it along with lots of bug fixes. The ClickView package uses Xvid v1.1.3_28062007 which is ancient.
* It isn't just a wrapper around the Xvid executable so it will uninstall properly. The ClickView package doesn't remove the Xvid codec files when you uninstall the .msi!
* It doesn't create any shortcuts on the start menu.
