    Micro Librarian Systems

We have just bought into Micro Librarian Systems Eclipse 2 Library Cataloging and Management Software. The main bulk of the software has installed perfectly, we have imported all the users and the scanners working fine. One of the elements we use is the Disovery Online add-on that communicates with Micro Librarian website to bring book data down to the school.

We run Microsoft ISA Server 2004 as an onsite proxy which is chained to the LEA proxy.

We are having difficulty in getting the communication between the two to work correctly and it comes up with the following error.

Socket Error 11001 The specified hostname is invalid or could not be resolved
    Connect Failed - 11001 Application-defined or object-defined error [RuntimeDLL at 0]
Userarea.ReadObject('http://www.microlib.co.uk/download/info.htm',5) Failed with error 11001 Application-defined or object-defined error [RuntimeDLL at 0] Extended Error: The specified hostname is invalid or could not be resolved
11001 The specified hostname is invalid or could not be resolved [RuntimeDLL at 28310]
Has anyone else encountered this issue at all and if so could you advise?

    Chris

    Re: Micro Librarian Systems

Looks like a DNS problem. Does www.microlib.co.uk correctly on your network? Here's what happens here:

    Code:
    root@titan:~# nslookup www.microlib.co.uk
    Server: 10.73.24.5
    Address: 10.73.24.5#53

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: www.microlib.co.uk
    Address: 212.227.87.64

Yes Geoff we get the same response from nslookup (obviously with our own server detail.

I'm starting to think it is an ISA issue but where to start I don't know.

I don't have ISA here. One of the other forum members might be able to help with that side of things. Ric for example.

Is it trying a direct connection rather thank using proxy settings?

    No

As part of the software you have to enter the proxy details which I have done. We have a gateway server that runs ISA, this server acts as the gateway connection for the two networks in school and feeds to the upstream proxy of the LA.

We chain our ISA box to the LEA's proxy.

In your ISA logs are you getting any mention of connection attempts from the software to the site in question?

Don't assume that just because it _has_ a proxy dialogue box in the software that it'll actually pay any attention to it.

That is true it may be attempting basic auth instead of NTLM or something and your ISA might be knocking it back.

    Re: Micro Librarian Systems

If you use authentication on your ISA proxy, the software probably won't be sending it. When I used to use MLS with ISA 2000 I didn't have this problem but it could be because I tend to allow traffic from certain servers straight access to the net without authenticating.

Try adding a firewall rule that allows your library server access for 'All Users' (this means anonymous access is OK).
