    Papercut NG

    Just downloaded papercut 11.1 trial for 40 days and it's awesome but i was wondering if anyone could help.

    We have 2 managed printers and the contract is 2000 colour pages per month combined for both printers so you could print 1 page on one and 1999 pages on the other and be within the limits.

    What i want to do is limit the printers so that when the total of colour pages over both printers reaches 2000 then it prevents colour printing but still allows mono.

    is this possible?

    This certainly sounds possible, have you looked at the scripting yet?

    I've done it here before that it sends all jobs that are colour as mono so I don't see why not. Easiest is probably email Papercut and see what they say.

    I know a way to do this but it'll only work if the 2 managed printers is all you have?

    I don't think out of the box papercut will not work like that. I think as a work around you could set it up so everyone prints and is charged to a shared account. This account has a quota. You then set the print costs so people can only do 2000 prints...
    I think something like this was previously suggested to the Dev’s and it's probably on the long list of things to do We mentioned it would be handy for copier dealers as they could then restrict people to X amount of prints per month.

    I don't think you can do it with the current scripting API: Print Script API Reference

    Just a thought, could you set up a virtual print cue for those two printers and then let Papercut decide which one to send it to so it balances it out? The you can apply the scripting to that one print cue instead.

    Just a thought!

    You could set up two print Q's for each printer - One that can only print mono and one that can print colour and or mono.

    Charge the colour to one account with a limit and then the mono one to another account with no limit!

    When the colour reaches it's limit set the alert to tell the user that so they then print in mono.

    I don't think you can assign printer queues to specific accounts, only users.

    There is no direct way to do this but you can setup a script on the two printers something like the following. The key is to create a special shared account that is used as the quota of pages printed in color.

    /*
    * Charge Printing to a particular Shared Account for Color Limiting
    */
    function printJobHook(inputs, actions) {

    if (inputs.user.isInGroup("EverestUser")) {

    // Test if the job is color (contains at least 1 color page)
    if (inputs.job.isColor) {

    // Charge the job to the "PrinterLimit" shared account.
    actions.job.chargeToSharedAccount("PrinterLimit");

    // Record the reason for free printing in the job comment.
    actions.job.addComment("All prints charged to PrinterLimit");
    //When Shared Account quote is depleted Color jobs will no longer print
    }

    // Test if the job is Grayscale
    if (inputs.job.isGrayscale) {
    // Add your action code here
    //No Action Required
    }
