Am I being extremely thick here, but how do I disable access to a server via creating a shortcut? They need to be able to create shortcuts.
For example a student can create a shortcut to \\server2, and see it although most access is restricted.
How do I stop that?

I'm not sure, could you not do this in GP, and possibly through a new user group with only certain rights, so you can give them access to user files and then change other folder permissions to administrator only ? I'm not sure how you do it though but it's just an idea.
Let us know how you get on.
