VNC - Display Image on Screen
Happy New Year folks.
Just a thought here, not something I'm desperate for but it could be useful. Is there a version of VNC that stops input devices at the local computer and displays a custom image on the screen? I know a few versions halt the input and turn off the monitor, but it would be useful to instead show a picture that has something like "this computer is being worked on by IT, please do not touch".
Anything like this exist?

UltraVNC has a big Eye that comes up when you press a lock KVM button on the toolbar at your end. I would guess its just a JPG or BMP in the files somewhere so you could probably dig around in it and replace the eye file with a like for like sized image, but I haven't tried I'm afraid.

Had a look through the files in Program Files\UltraVNC and can't see any image files.

Maybe its hard coded into the program

This might be random - but do you use an Active desktop?
UltraVnc removes the desktop background from a machine and shows a plain windows one while connected - you might be able to edit the plain windows one with "This is being worked on by IT", although not sure if that is possible/would work

It is indeed hardcoded into the program.
You can replace it by using Reshacker.
Open c:\program files\ultravnc\winvnc.exe in reshacker, Navigate to Bitmap - 139 - 2067. Right click and select replace resource. Choose the bitmap file with you custom error message. This BMP can be bigger than the original, perhaps the size of your standard background.

Okay, replaced the image fine - thanks, but which button do I toggle in UltraVNC Viewer to show the image now?

The one that is a picture of the monitor called "toggle remote input and remote blank monitor".
Forgot to mention that the winvnc.exe needs to be replaced on the target machine not controlling one.

It's okay - found the problem - had to enable alpha-blending on target machine to show the image. Just gotta update the package now and reallocate it out
