Thanks to those who have offered help here with regards to MSSQL

The database libraries I use in PrintMaster, in theory, support multiple databases - but the queries have to be written in a slightly different, generic, way. For most of the project I think that would be fine - but there are several queries in there at the moment that use mainly MySQL-specific functions and syntax, which would need to be updated.

So - if MSSQL was something that people really wanted to be supported, I could look into the possibility of updating the project to support it "out of the box". The only problem is that I don't know much about using MSSQL at all Do I just download SQL Server Express and away I go?

Also can we get a supply for something other than a toner colour? Maybe icons for, fuser assemblies, imaging units (drums), toner collection units, rollers, and other "consumable supplies"?

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Id like to use this between 2 departments so will not be able to install just on My PC.

I have tried installing mysql on the server but will not allow me to create new database using the command line syntax CREATE DATABASE. Where am i going wrong?

Webman im not a pro at MSSQL but i assume just installing SQL Express would give you all required.

CANT WAIT TO USE YOU APP!! Its going to save us alot of hassle

    Hi eskIT.

What errors are you receiving when you try to make the database? How are you trying to do these?

When you set up MySQL, you should have set a "root" password at some point. When you log in as root with that password, you should be able to do anything - including creating new databases.

A few posts ago I made a zip file with xampp and PM setup available for a "quick setup".

Ah! OK. If you add a semicolon after your commands, it should be fine. For example:

    Code:
    CREATE DATABASE printmaster;

Anyway we can make better use of screen real estate? There's a lot of useless space to the left and right of the Install consumable Consumable stock columns.

Hi. Yes, you can change the code in one file to adjust these to suit your needs. Open index.php, and look near the bottom (lines 72-78).

You will see references to grid_5 suffix_1 and grid_6. These classes determine the width on the page that each one takes up. It's based on a grid system, with 12 imaginary columns to work from in total. So if you used grid_6 classes on both columns, each would take up half of the width of the container. Or you could have a grid_5 for the consumables and a grid_7 for the stock. As long as the grid_X numbers add up to 12, you should be fine.

@webman I have just installed PrintMaster today - great product!

I have a couple of queries / suggestions for slight changes...

1.) (and I think it has been mentioned before) the ability to track more than just toners; i.e. Drum / Fuser Units etc.
2.) it would be really useful (I think at least ;-) ) if the Models page were to show a count of printers for each model, in the same way the manufacturer page shows a count of printers.
3.) Per-consumable critical / warning / OK levels. If I have only one of a particular model I may be happy to only have one consumable on the shelf; but if I have ten of this model I may consider four toners to be critical...

Thanks again for your work on this; great script!

    Jon

Hi Jon, thanks for your message and checking out PrintMaster

Your number 1 and 3 suggestions have already been mentioned before. This additional request though has given them extra weight to help them gain more priority for the next round of changes! Number 2 is a good idea as well and rather easy to do.

    Thanks again!
    Craig.

Taking my request #2 a bit further; it would also be really handy to see total printers in the system which use each consumable on the consumables page. Certainly if request #3 was to come into play, this would help in deciding what the per-consumable critical / warning levels should be.

    Thanks,
    Jon
