migration from pop (squirrelmail) to gmail
We are moving away from pop3 squirrel mail to Gmail, as part of our contract the new LP does not come with email.
Has anyone migrated old mail from a pop3 mail to gmail?
As we are doing this for several schools it would be nice to automate it.
For our test one i have created identical usernames and email addresses on gmail, and now have changed the MX records, so new emails are arriving in the correct place. The old emails are still on the squirrel mail server, and we need a way to transfer them across.
I dont think this is now possible for our test one as we cant even send emails from squirrelmail anymore.
Our plan B is for the schools to send there emails on to a intimidate address and then we will forward them on to the right accounts when they are created. Not very elegant so is there better options.

Are you looking at a pop server or imap? As far as I know squirrelmail is IMAP based rather than pop3.
There are a number of opensource imap sync tools available, that should do the job for you. including a two way sync so that you can keep up with the changes.
imapsync is the one I am considering for a simalar job if I ever get the go ahead on a new exchange box.
