Proxy Authenticaton & Office 2003
Hey guys,
I am not sure if this is possibly at all, I would like to know if there is a way of integrating the proxy authentication login details into Microsoft Office 2003 so the students aren’t required to enter these details.
This is mainly aimed at the lower year groups due to their literacy skills, it's difficult for them to access clipart which connects to the internet and requires proxy authentication.
I would like to know if I can implement this information into Office 2003 via Active Directory maybe?
Never done anything like this before, so not sure where to start.
I know I could add the information into the default profile in the NETLOGON folder as a saved password for them, however, all the profiles downloaded from the sever wouldn't have this information.
Any information is appreciated.

I think this largely depends on the proxy solution you are using. Which proxy server are you using at the moment?

If I were you I would disable the online clipart and use the Office XP Media CD as detailed in the other thread that's going.
I'm gonna guess he's using ISA 2004?

If you are using AD, just use Group Policy to give them their proxy details.

If its any help, cachepilot 4 will include proper AD intergration so users wont need to enter a password. Should be with us very shortly - at an extortionate price like. £1000 iirc

Re: Proxy Authenticaton & Office 2003
Can I ask what problems you are having with Office 2003 and the proxy?
We have a problem where the proxy authentication dialog box disapears behind the office window, and the user cannot do anything unlet they ALT-TAB.
To reproduce:
1. Goto "Insert" Menu ---> Picture ---> Clipart
2. Do a search using a keywork ensuring that it is including web collections.
3. Proxy Authentication dialog box will apear.
Then either:
a) Click on the document area while Auth popup box is displayed. The popup will stay, but move your mouse over the top of the Dialog Box and it disapears.
or
b) Move the scroll wheel on the mouse when the popup box appears, then left click on the document area, the popup will disapear.
Effected Office Applications are Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint, and Infopath. Word is suseptable, however it behaves slightly differently in that you can click on the Word process on the taskbar, Word will minimize and the Authorisation dialog box will appear. Access does not have clipart functionality.
Symptoms occur on all tested mahines (Dell OptiPlex GX60 and GX52).
Sysmptoms do not occur on Dell Optiplex GX620.
Can't seem to fix this problem!!!!!
