    Student passwords

We have several differnet systems that the students have different passwords for (network, webmail, VLE). When students return after summer holidays we are finding that a lot of passwords are forgotten. Does anybody blanket reset student passwords when they return? If so how do you then notify students of the changed passwords?

Is there any reason why they can't have the same password for all applications? Then at least they would only have one to forget?

At the moment there's no way to integrate the individual sytems to allow one password for them all.

It's tough not having SSO, not sure how you will get around that and it must mean increased support time spent resetting forgotten student passwords for you.

Our students have one account for everything and I reset their password at the start of each year. I use a VBscript to make a password out of a few custom letters (same for everyone) followed by the students barcode number (unique) and set the flag that students must change passwords on first logon.

Edit: forgot to say I notify all staff of the password structure and they educate the students in homegroup and also their first lesson in front of a computer.

I agree not having SSO is probably a bit of a pain for yourselves more so them, we have everything via SSO internally and externally so they just have the one password to remember (and thats hard enough)

Every Summer Break we BULK reset the passwords, so that they have to change them at logon.

I'll give them until say the next day and they forget it again lol!

    James.
