sorry if there is a thread already, i have had a good look but did not find one here. I have sucessfully managed to use intellimirror to redirect users my documents folders. However i cannot find any websites or threads here on how to carry this out.
Would be greatful if anybody has any links or docs on how to setup up desktop & startmenu redirection.

would be most appreciative ... as always

Here's a technet article on it.

    http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true

The Desktop/Start Menu redirection is in the same section of the GPO as the My documents settings.

Re: need instructions on how to redirect desktop & startmenu

Thanks for the link. As the home folders were already in existance when i setup redirection for the my documents folder i did not need to create anything. However I do not have a desktop folders that i can redirect. i have created shared folders that have set up for staff and students. Do i just drop the shortcuts that i want the two different groups to get, is is there more to iw
Also the same applies to the startmenu. I copied a startment folder from the all users group from the languages department. I then removed any folders (system tools etc) from it Do i just drop the folder in share then use the gpo settings to run that for the particular security group?

    many questions........

Re: need instructions on how to redirect desktop & startmenu

Generally I have Staff/Students/Year groups in different OUs. I then have several Folders corresponding to how I have the OUs organised. I have separate Start Menu/Desktop folders in each. I can then specify in a GPO in each OU to redirect to each separate sub folder.

Re: need instructions on how to redirect desktop & startmenu

just found this at icttechnicians.com site
just thought i would share it for anybody else looking to setup desktop/startmenu redirection

    1. folder redirection is not dependant on profile setup. Local, Roaming or Mandatory will all work with it

    2. Start with a simple folder path to direct the desktop contents

    \\server\templates\student\desktop

and when this is OK, move on to start menu and start menu programs folder.

    \\server\templates\student\programs

    and work from there.

    3. Remember the 'Remove common program groups from Start Menu' option otherwise your custom start menu will 'merge' with the local 'all users' one and you will see more shortcuts than you should.

    4. Use 'Classic Mode' XP start menu as this looks much more logical

Re: need instructions on how to redirect desktop & startmenu

I have managed to get this setup and trialled across a dozen pcs.
so far so good, i have used the printer vbscipt that is available on this site to manage mapping printer so the various classrooms.

The first issue was the favourites were not being redirected,
i used the adm file from
    http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/g...s-via-GPO.aspx job done.

My next issue was that when i log on as a pupil and try and double click the programs folder on the start menu it opens the

folder. I was able to rename the apps
I had not set read only on the share but have done now. I have set the ACL's as
    admin = FC
    students = R/E

and reset permissions on all child objects
    1.
Now whilst logged on as a pupil i cannot rename any of the programs in the start menu but can rename the folder program! even though it is read only.
I can also rename the desktop icons. I have noticed that if i log on as another user i get the correct names for the icons and programs folder.

    2.
My other issue is i need to set the folder options to "show the common task in folders" This is to allow the users to have options to copy, rename and make new folders.

    thanks
