HI all, I have a question regarding backups and what we should go for. We want to be backing up about 260Gb of data for user areas, and about 100Gb for shared resources. I thought of backing up using a D2D2T solution, but don't have much money to play with as our SBM keeps telling me we will be waiting for BSF before we buy anything expensive.
Has anyone got any ideas of what I could use to backup this amount of data and what sort of costs i'd be looking at.

I'd definately look at something like an iomega ix4-200d nas and R1Soft CDP software.

how would i go about using that, would i put all my shared folders on that then back them up according to a schedule? Or would I back up to that and then backup to tape?

I'm currently also using R1softs CDP server. Found a couple of flaws but generally very good (just renewed support for another year at about £70 for three servers).
We use a retired server with a raid5 array in another separate building. I would have bought new, but we will be virtualising before long, and we needed a solution quickly that wasn’t going to break the bank.
It's still my intension to then archive the backups to a third building. Tapes are too much trouble these days imho.

How about making yourself a cheep nas solutions usign (open source, openfiler) then either using ntbackup or acronis to clone / incremental / differential your backups as required.
we do a nightly full backup about 600GB of data. Wonderful to restore from and very reliable.
