We are trying to prohibit students from saving files to their desktops and forcing them to use their home drive on the network for storage space. We have managed to disable copying files to the desktop by drag and drop, but if they highlight a file in Explorer, they can choose File - Send To - Desktop to copy the files to the desktop of the local computer.
Any ideas? The only thing I have found online is local registry changes. I would like this to be set via GPO on certain security groups.
I'm guessing the reason you want to do this is to stop them loosing files that are saved locally onto workstations? If so, I approached this from a different angle. I used Folder Redirection to make the Desktop folder a subfolder of their home drive.
Curious as to how you stopped drag & drop though. Has it also stopped copy & paste, and the 'Copy to folder' menu item on the Explorer Edit menu?
Sorry for the delayed response, it has been hectic the past few days, as I am sure that most of us can understand. I have attached a PDF of the settings that we have in place for you to review. Let me know if this is a help.
