Hi,
I'm just implementing PureMessage, the email antivirus and filter from Sophos.
Anyway I'm wanting to use it to filter obscene emails too but really don't want to spend all my life typing a list of banned words.
Does anyone know where I can find one on the internet? I've being looking all day!
Thanks,

What about The PhraseMaster lists? They are designed for Dansguardian but I expect you can adapt them.

I guess if nothing else turns up they'll help.
Still if anyone has just a text file it'd be so much simpler lol

Lol, how many swear words can there actually be? Not being someone who uses -any- vulgar language, i'd have probably ended up with a list of about 15-20 words max lol.

The lists from the Phrasemaster are text files.

Yes Geoff but they're scattered through many different ones, with lots of stray bits or squares and stuff in them!
I know it's not much just thought I'm not losing out if I ask for anything simpler

Lets attack this from the other end then. What does your AUP/other policy documents dictate?

I'd rather not get into a debate on that with this thread. I've been tasked with implementing this by people higher up, it is them who write and enforce the AUP

Then we can't help. If you can't explain what kinds of content you wish to filter we can't give you a meaningful list that will apply sensibly to your schools policies.

Sorry Geoff was thinking you meant about the looking at what they were doing lol.
The AUP is very general about not abusing the facilities or using inappropriate language. That they are expected to adhere to standard school policies of not swearing/bullying/racism etc while using the school network and email facilities.

Swearing is easy enough. A suitable Google query leads to some promising lists. Combine and edit them as required.

Bullying/racism is a lot harder to automagically detect. It's very dependant on context and meaning. Something impossible for a computer to understand. You're better off using a mark one eyeball.

See I tried Google all morning for things like 'banned word list' 'email filter dictionary' and lots of other things.
Thanks for your tips.

You do know that Sohos gives you a list of about 200 words for the filter don't ya? Its a text file called Offensivewords or offensive, and its normally in the folder that puremessage unzipped into, just in there open it up and copy and paste.
