build a html link list of a directory structure

Not sure if I should post this in here or in the scripts forum.

We have a shared drive that we put all the documentation we create about how to do things. Ive been asked to index all these in a html page with hyperlinks to each doc.

Pretty simple to do, however massively time consuming.

Is there a program or a script I can use to run through the share and automatically genertate html links to all .doc and .docx files?

Would save me about a whole day!

    Thanks in advance

Can you not just let the webserver index the folder?

Will the HTML pages be delivered by a web server?

If so, then as has been suggested, you could just allow the server to enable browsing of the directory and it will generate HTML on the fly. I would also imagine that there are plenty of ASP or PHP scripts that would allow directory browsing.

If you really have to have static content because it is not being delivered by a web server, then see below.

Can you tell us a bit more about how/why this is required?

(edit) - Have you tried this: Arclab Dir2HTML - Freeware Directory to HTML Converter

I have (I believe) something that would do this; unfortunately*, it is on a box at work. Work is the other side of a lot of snow. I'll try to remember what it is called!

Scrub that! It is the one AJ links to above! DIR2HTML

*Yeah, right. Time to wake my daughter with SNOWBALLS!!

Thanks that program looks exactly like what I was asking for.

Its just a standalone html document I want. The share isnt on a web server. I dont want to have to install joomla or IIS or whatever. There is hundreds of other stuff in the share I dont want listed. The whole reason for doing this is to have an organised list can just clikc on to skip all the other stuff and just have a quick link to the most common used docs.

Thanks for the replies.. Ill give that program a go
