    Symantec Backup Exec 12.?: IDR

Backup is now working quite well [it has been a rocky road]

However when it does the weekly and monthly backups i get this message:

...Backup Main List-Verulams Media Rotation-Weekly Full Backup") It is recommended that you rerun the Intelligent Disaster Recovery Preparation Wizard and select "Copy - Disaster recovery information (.dr) files" option, to back up your disaster recovery information (.dr) file.
even when I have manually backed up the DR info that afternoon.

Is there any way to backup this information automatically [scheduled] so that the backup software knows about it and I stop getting these annoying messages?

    Thanks.

The IDR files are automatically created/updated when a full back has been run and completed, hence this message appears in the event log every week/month etc. This is why backing up the IDR before a full weekly or monthly backup does not surpress this event message. It is by design.

The IDR is stored in a location as specified in the options (can't remember at present the exact menu item to view/select etc) but it is recommended to be on a different server/volume from that of the backup server.

The event prompt is basically advising you that the IDR has been updated and a backup of it (in addition to being on the physical backup) is required to a different location. The IDR wizard allows you to copy it to another location / ISO Image or to a floppy disk.

Can you tell me more about this? I've not heard of IDR in SBE before.

The IDR files are already located on a separate server. I had thought that this was a message saying something like the IDR files have been checked and have been found to be too old to be of use.

I think I will switch off the IDR files status messaging because at week and month end I get around 18 IDR related E-Mails from Symantec Backup.

    Thanks.

    IDR: Intelligent Distater Recovery:

Veritas Backup Exec Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option saves recovery time by automating the traditional manual, error prone process. The Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option automates server recovery, reducing the time to recovery and gets you back into business fast.
[Sales pitch from a company supplying Symantec products]

I can't vouch for it as I have never been in a position to be able to use it. However some are not happy. If you do a Google search I think that you might find one or two strong opinions.
