Andi,
Who is your LEA (I assume you are filtering through LEA)? Do you know what system they are using?

Andi,

blocked here (in all languages)
kids can search for pages on whatever they want pictures of and get them that way. We didn't have google images before and coped just fine!!
The 6th formers can use it though.
Hah... something that instigated that was one lad searching for 'pussy'... I was rather amused when pictures of cats appeared!!![]()
We don't have an LEA as we are a private school.
We use Webblocker as our webfilter, built into our Watchguard firewall. I've just created an expression which blocks anything from google images with the safe search off, but what I really wanted was almost like a find and replace feature that gets rid of the moderate and safe off string and replaces it with the strong filter on.
What is the string for the moderate filtering? I would like to enforce strong filtering by filtering the other options.

Andi,
Don't know off-hand what the string is, though if you can, you're best forcing the URL to contain some string rather than the other way around.
If you'd like to have a look at a drop-in replacement for watchguard with true content-filtering... do drop me a line.
Yes we block it. If in doubt set google filtering at the lowest levels and then search for the following fairly innocuous words:
pony girls (our Year 7 wanted illustrations for horsey stories!)
water sports (year 8 were making tourism brochures!)
prince albert (project about Queen Victoria!)
Seems safer to block all images rather than risk them see unsuitable ones.
banned here... people don't understand what to do either!!
Erm... Hello? Google images hasn't been around forever you know! What would you have done before hand??
Some peoples!!
Oh and it is blocked because bored children would type in all manner of things. Even with safe search on you can still get some dodgy stuff... tested it once.
Might have changed now though... I shall have to see!
ah I was right.... search for breasts with safesearch on.... :S
Impero have just added a feature to their latest version to force strict safe search on google.
Works a treat.
Blocked by our LEA though this didn't extend to other country sites
i.e. images.google.hu
We've blocked those in the school and have put icon on student desktop for a image search thats safe only. Buggered if I can remember the site at the moment, I'll post it tomorrow when I can check it.
We've not filtered it... even if you do get some questionable results when searching for the most relevant things... IE: Devon![]()
We ended up blocking google.images after finding that just typing a womans name you could get some questinable images if safe search was switched of.
We block lots of image search sites and students get Ditto.com on their desktop. Safe search by default and you can't change it.
Our LEA have setit so you cannot turn off Safe Search. Same with Yahoo aswell. I did it for the Live Search and I'm not sure about others to be honest.
I discovered that typing 'Chernobyl' into google reveals some incredible results on the first page...
Science recently pointed out to me the dangers of searching for 'optical illusions' in google image search too...
Unfortuanately we can't block it because the school actually use it as a major school resource, so we end up having to block individual items as and when they get found -_-;;;
