We allow it but with the strict search on..

however there is always yahoo image search, altavista, alltheweb and then video from youtube, blinkz, searchforvideo...

If we try and stop all the tools some kid will just find a differnet one. I just makesure we have a strict AUP inforce like a dictator (1 kid lost his internet access for 6 month). After all Guns don't kill people People do. We need to educate kids as to what is appropriate and what is not and when they come accross inappropriate things what to do. Though I don't advocate a open internet I do think we sometimes throw away great teaching tools due to potential problems... Rant over...

We allow it here on the Safe Search Option and ban a variety of "key words". But as people have said its not fool proof as a lot of innocent words can bring up unwated images.

Content filtering rather than simple blacklisting can go a long way to combat this. But yes your correct, it's not really a technical problem. Policies needs to be drawn up, agreed upon and enforced.

Only blocked in 1 out of my 8 (primary) schools, following a pupil telling his parents about the picture he found at school.

Re: Google images do you block it?

Google Images on average accounts for three times as much traffic as the next most popular site at my place. If I blocked it, there'd be anarchy :|

Safesearch is enforced by e2bn along with keyword filters so it could be worse.

Blocked by the LEA at my school

Im fine with that, but the amount of innocent sites they have been blocking in the last week is really starting to annoy me..and when an email about unlocking one still hasnt been answered after nearly 2 weeks I start to get a bit annoyed

Sorry, needed a rant about that

“You let them in rooms with no supervision? I guess it's easy for us they're not allowed in the building during breaks ”
Well we do have dinner lady’s who are meant to supervise rooms. But well… I am not happy about Dinner ladies supervising Internet access.

We are also a small special needs school so we have to keep a lot of children inside. No one is permitted off site at dinner unlike most schools.

Ah SEN I see, yeh they're allowed in on the computers during breaks and lunch here, though only down in the SEN rooms where they're always supervised anyway.
Noone's allowed offsite here either, including sixth formers, infact there's a lot about a lot of school I don't agree with! lol

Re: Google images do you block it?

We analyzed the proxy logs and found that the most data was being transfered over t'internet at lunch times and the site that it was due to was....yup you guessed it. Google images!

So, we decided that it might be a good idea to setup a rule to block it at lunch times. Then we thought, "ooooh the number of kids that use it for legitimate uses in homework etc."

We just ended up leaving it and blocking http://*.premiumtv.co.uk/* instead

Bye bye all football sites LOL.

Hmm, can't see any option on our Webblocker server. Will get onto them.

    Thanks
