    JRE 6u16 disable update

Going nuts over trying to disable the auto update of JRE 6u16.

I downloaded the .exe and extracted the .msi and .cab and then made a transformation disabling auto update features. All that works fine and if I look at the reg keys at HKLM\software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.6.0_16 then everything is as it should be.

However, it seems that during the install process another updater is installed, with reg keys at HKLM\software\JavaSoft\Java Update setting a schedule for updating Java.

Those reg keys are not referenced in the .msi so I guess it calls another installer to do this.
Anyone else have this issue and how do I stop this happening?

If I remember correctly, you used to be able to completely disable updates in the .msi extracted from the installer.

Ok in the end I fixed this by making an msi to change HKLM\software\JavaSoft\Java Update\Policy\Enable JavaUpdate from 1 to 0.

I am sure it didn't use to be this complicated?

I use group policy to stop the process running (jusched.exe).

I also use it to stop the Java Quick Starter from running (jqs.exe), as it prevents jave from being updated when trying to run an MSI in the background.

    Good plan!
