    Shared favourites for different classes

I've been having a look around for this already but so far found some semi-related nuggets but nothing definitive.

What I've been asked is whether we can setup a favourites folder for each class that the class teacher can update with new links as and when.

Now, I'm aware that I could redirect their favourites folder using a login script eg: http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?nam...ght=favourites

    ... but
    a) I'd like the children to retain their own personal favourites
    b) I also need to detect if they're a member of a specific OU (each class has an OU) before redirecting, synching, etc... the appropriate class folder.

    Any ideas?

Re: Shared favourites for different classes

In my schools I put a shortcut to a shared folder into the favourites on each machine and then just add shortcuts to the shared folder.

Or a teacher can export their favourites (or a branch of their favourites) to this (or a sub folder only for their class) and create a bookmark.htm file.

    regards

As it is, Favorites are stored in the 'local settings' as such they wont 'follow' people around. So there's nothing for you to retain. So I'll dismiss point A as a non-issue.

As for detecting if they are in an OU, I suspect using a VBS script is the answer.

Favourites are not stored in the 'Local Settings' folder, but in the root of the profile. They will roam quite happily.

The folder can be redirected elsewhere with a registry change, but the shared folder solution would probably be less hassle.

You're quite right. I was getting mixed up with the History folder.

Re: Shared favourites for different classes

we have a redirected desktop for each class with a shortcut on the desktop redirection to a folder the teacher has access to and she puts faverates and work in this folder and it works really well al the little darlings have read only access so they cannot delete any favs.

Favourites can be set in Group Policy, or if you use mandatory profiles, just make a shortcut for the teacher to drop the shortcut to the site in and way, it appears!

Thanks for the input folks... much appreciated.

Figured it might be something along the lines suggested.. just the old cold addled brain wasn't letting me think straight.

    Cheers
