    Electronic visitor signing in book

I just had this idea of using an old table pc we have lying around and turning it into an electronic version so I'm after some software to run on it.

I was thinking a web interface to a mysql db would do it?

    Any thoughts or pointers welcome.

I started to plan something similar on paper but never got round to implementing it.

Initial Page - welcome etc - Please click on your year group

Page Two - Please click on your form group

Page Three - Please click on your name

Page Four - Please click on the reason for lateness
The lates would be auto generated from looking at previous late reasons on the paperbased system. Then in popularity order it would then list the most common at the top of the page.

I envisaged the system either not having a keyboard and being mouse driven only or via a touchscreen.

Once the student signs in an e-mail is automatically sent to the SSM (Student Support Manager) and Attendance Officer fully date and time stamped. A report could also be printed off to be taking up in a fire alarm situation.

If only I had the time......

We currently have 4 signing in/out books.

A visitor one, staff one, student signing in and student signing out.

I was thinking of replacing all of those with a tabbed interface on the tablet.

Visitor, Staff, Student In, Student Out and then recording the relevant information there.

I did a similar thing with a RM Tablet and an Access database but they never ran with it. Said the screen was 'too small'.....

Sounds like a good idea, BUT...

The first thing our receptionist grabs when the fire-alarm goes off is the Visitors Book, so we can check that everyone is safe...

    They'll just grab the tablet.

Have you looked at your MIS systems/Classroom Roll systems and see if it can handle visitors, although they would require someone at the office to do it for the person.

For example, I know IDAttend can do it (and it prints little badges/slips out).
