    Basic or Dynamic disks

I have just been reading about disk managment. I am not going to go into Server OS's here but just XP Pro.

On your home pc's or school pc's how many of you use Dynamic Disks and why?

    Re: Basic or Dynamic disks

Unless you're going to use striping or spanning, there is very little point to using dynamic disks. I only use them on the servers to mirror the boot drives.

    Re: Basic or Dynamic disks

in a striped 2 disk array the probability of failure is double that of a sinfgle disk.
TBO I don't see the point of striping - some say performance boost, others not.

I do have mirrored software raid at home for mp3's/movies, I lost a drive a few years ago and do want to go through that again.

I only use dynamics when needed, such as to extend a partion when I run out of room etc...
