Hi Guys - beginner at Sharepoint. I had Sharepoint Services 3 Installed and am going to use it for a pupil and staff intranet.
What I want to know is is is possible for a Site to access information within one of it's own Subsites.
EG if i have the follwing layouts:
Main Site (Pupil entry Point)
---> Staff Subsite (Staff entry point)
-------> ICT Helpdesk Subsite (ICT Support Staff Entry Point using the ICT Helpdesk Template)
What I want to know is if I have lots of lists from the ICT Helpdesk Template (E.g Rooms, Categories, Issues) Can the Staff Subsite see and add to these lists. What I want to do is display the member of staffs ICT help desk issues on the Main Staff Subsite entry point. As standard sharepoint does not seem to be able to access data in a sub site?
Hope you understand what I mean!

17th September 2009, 12:06 PM #2 Looks like its not possible by default, but there are workarounds: Sharepoint Tips And Tricks: A Lookup to the sub sites
Edit: I take it back, misunderstood slightly. Try having a look through this thread: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/conversat...eadid=30321359
It looks like the Documentation on DataForm Webpart, Rollup webpart or Content Query Webpart are what you're looking for.

22nd September 2009, 09:01 AM #4 You can use the Content Query Web Part to pull information for a subsite but they will not be able to add information from here.
I currently use this as a blog aggregater and have it at the top of my site and show all the recent blogs below that site. But I can also tell it to look at he whole site collection or a certain site.

24th September 2009, 12:49 PM #5 just to add, sharepoint designer 2007 (free microsoft application) may be useful. I am working on the same project too.
Managed to get the calendar on line in sharepoint. Was then asked why it could not be printed to one page! I had to use designer 2007 to reformat the printpage.
Looking to use the feature that allows staff to log requests (for ICT job logging) and get an alert via email using outlook once we have signed it off. (proactive approach!)
Using the wiki for intranet purposes, what, where and how (this will stop a lot of the support calls like where can i scan something or where can i find a A3 laser printer! how many printer credits do i get etc).
