    Hardware Scanning

    Hi folks,

Not sure what to call this kind of software, so took a guess at "Hardware Scanning".

Basically I have a sound card to install, but I'm not sure what make/model it is. Can anybody recommend some (FREE) software that might scan the hardware, discover what it is and let me know so I can get the right drivers?

    Many thanks,

(P.S. I used to use some years ago but completely forgot the name of it, and hence can't find it now).

I always used to use Aida32 for this. I assume it still exists, long time since I've done that sot of thing!

If that doesn't work you may be able to gleam useful information from the card itself or its hardware id in control panel.

Astra32 will do it, its not free but the free version does what you need.

It will usually give you the chipset to download a compatibile driver
