16th June 2009, 01:24 PM #1 how do you check through students image files?
I'm currently trolling through all the images on the network in the students user areas for inapropreate material but it's taking forever. I am currently doing a search for picture files and *.jpg's and looking through the search results. can you think of a quicker way of doing it or if you have to do the same how do you do it?
hope that made sence (brain is switching off atm so not a lot makes sence to me atm)

16th June 2009, 01:32 PM #4 Just found this - not sure if this is of any use
Introduction - Fast File Search (ffsearch)
Am guessing there are actual pieces of software ( dont ask which ) that you could use to search through the students areas to find any image file type ie gif, png, tiff, bmp, jpg etc
That or nasty file search
Administrators Nasty File Search v2.0 (Released)

Write a script (probably to run overnight) to search for image files (actually, you could have it try and open each file - that'd stop people hiding things by changing the file extension) and create thumbnails in a central folder where you can look at them a page at a time.

what about eduseep?
This little program is rather good. It also helps find 'other' undesirable files.

16th June 2009, 01:40 PM #7 There is software that does it, similar idea to Dansguardian. I believe it's only file based rather then proxy however, basically it works on skin tone, from what I understand it's pretty good. I can't remember the company\product, I'll post something tomorrow (I did remember to write it down!!). No idea of cost.

16th June 2009, 01:49 PM #8 I wrote a small applet to pick out random users from Active Directory to spot check, with a counter so you know how many are done - we do five or ten a day, for example. Randomising it means nobody can assume they are safe.

16th June 2009, 02:20 PM #10 Yeh it sucks doing the searches, but i used to just search for big files over 200kb anything smaller it would not print out very well or would be very pixelated, therefore i just ignored the small pics.
Also i found that once you found one big pic they would be a folder full of other pics.
It is a long process and sucks, i spent most of my time making sure the pics could never get their in the first place, printing the pics out and sending them home used to do it for my school. For some reason sending indecent images home to parents scares the living hell out of pupils... wounder why

17th June 2009, 07:49 AM #14 would there be any harm in making a backup tape and then wiping out all user data and see who shouts for what?
