This is probably silly but, have/are you:
working on a clean station.
reset the packagebuilder profile
Also, whats's not working? is it working for staff, or admin and not students?
Any specifics would be useful in determining what's wrong.

Yep, agree with the PDF Creator suggestion. Just install it on a server - it has the "server" option during the installation and you can share it & list it in the directory just like any other shared printer.

We tried PDF Creator on a windows 2003 server. but it would not print i thought it might be a security issue. The PDF went into the print queue and that was the last we saw of it. can any one advice.
with regard to are cc3 packages i can't get the package to create or install properly so havn't got to trying to use the software yet.

PDFCreator now comes with an MSI version - installed on my 2003/XP system no problems [pushed out to every client] [sorry if that's what you meant sysman]

This is quite topical, considering i set one up on a CC3 network yesterday.
I would recommend PDFCreator as has already been suggested.
Use the version 0.91msi (0.92 offers little extra for the added hastle of creating a new msi) and deploy that to workstations. It works out of the box and doesn't force itself as the default printer.
Well recommended (and saves £2k over buying acrobat for all machines, which it did look like the teachers were going to push for at one point)
Edit: Just a note about the server version which has been suggested. That could be installed, however it is difficult to get the pdf's to save in the correct place. The save to dialogue box does not appear on user machines, so you have to configure autosave on the server. You could save to a shared area, or pupil home dir's if they are all on one server. If you have load balanced your users over multiple servers, i would go for msi deployment, otherwise server version is suitable.
Matt.
