I will be settling into my new position in September (Senior Systems Manager), and one of the first things I want to get done is the formulation of an AUP for the school network. Over the last two years I have had to watch as staff and students bring in personal laptops, devices, memory sticks etc and access all the recources on the network- and in some cases copy music and videos etc to their shared area. I have had little chance to do anything about this (except clean out the areas every few weeks).
I think we need to manage this situation from a legal perspective from the outset, and so want to make sure that we are following and publishing and making people aware of an "Acceptable Use Policy". This will go hand-in-hand with my implementation this past week of Server 2003 R2s File Screening tool set; I have started blocking students (and soon staff too) from saving MP3 and other music and also movie files to their home areas- at least until we know what we are dealing with and how to balance the need for files for work with the legalities of storing music files etc on a school network.
Sooo---anyone got an AUP or developed one lately and have any pointers for this newbie? You can PM or email the information or post it here so that others can get some idea of what it takes. All help will be heard and considered--and very much appreciated.
By the way- I have been to BECTAs site and am printing off different documents as I type so that's one resource I have found and am using. Anything else out there??
This is an ICT/AU Policy that we use for staff. We will probably use it for students. I decided it had to be simple and focussed. It is based on a download passed to me from a deputy head - can't remember from where.
